What do cardamom pods taste like?

Cardamom has a sharp camphor-like taste.

How should I use cardamom pods?

Peel open the green cardamom to reveal the cardamom seeds inside. Grind these seeds to make cardamom powder which can easily be added to your food.

I love to make a cardamom infused latte – Add 1/4 tsp cardamom powder to a cup of warm milk, add honey, chopped almonds and pistachios and enjoy a warm cup of this cardamom latte before bed.

Do not throw away the green peels. Simply add them to your tea or coffee to give it a fragrant smell and taste.

How many cardamom pods can I eat per day?

You should consult this with a doctor, especially if you have health conditions, however, there is no official recommended dosage. I would suggest a maximum of 2 pods.

How to store cardamom pods?

Store cardamom pods in a cool, dark cupboard away from direct sunlight or heat (such as your stove) or humidity in an airtight container. Cardamom pods can last for up to 1- 2 years if stored well.

After 2 years, the pods can still be used but they may not be as fragrant or strong tasting.

I always find that storing any spices in the refrigerator increases their shelf life quite a bit. Once open, place your cardamom pods in an airtight zip lock bag, place in a container and store it in your refrigerator. You need to ensure that the cardamom pods are stored in a cold, dry place. Moisture should not enter inside the cardamom pods.
